Media
UNFPA Nepal realizes the valuable role the media plays in fostering greater public understanding of its policies and programmes. Because the media has the power to increase public awareness and affect public policy debate, UNFPA frequently collaborates with international, national and regional journalists on political, humanitarian and technical developments in the areas that UNFPA works.
Through the years, UNFPA's collaboration with the media has become an effective mechanism to advocate on various issues for policy reforms in such areas as reproductive health services, discriminatory laws against women, education for girls, and gender-based violence.
As part of its working together with the media, UNFPA organizes project and publication launches, disseminates advocacy materials and press kits, develops media campaigns, and contributes to the capacity-building of media in the priority areas of UNFPA's work. The Fund also puts journalists and photographers in touch with projects and personnel and facilitates fieldtrips to help them put a human face on, and see the complexities of, its work.
UNFPA partnerships with Sancharika Samuha and the Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare in 2007 resulted in media campaign on uterine prolapse including the development of media kit, guidelines and training of journalists. On women peace and security UNFPA organized meetings with senior journalists on the UNSCR 1325 and its relevance in Nepal. Media kits in English and Nepalese have been distributed.
